Time to be Thankful

I am sitting in my home office thinking about the year we are about to leave. What a crazy year for Christian Roofing and Remodeling here in Athens. We have been busy and we have worked hard. The guys are tremendous. We have been blessed. God has been faithful. Last year at this time we were wondering what 2010 would bring.
It has been a great year. Kevin and Matt are new dads. John is a new husband. I am cancer free. The business is profitable. Christian Roofing and Remodeling made the list of the UGA Bulldog 100.
Anyway, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year. Bring on 2011.

Green Roofs

We've put on a number of green roofs in the past.  My favorite green roof in Athens is the one we did for Mr. Spratlin. When I told him "Sorry, the only sample I have is this ugly green one".  You already know that that is the color he wanted.  So I took my foot out of my mouth, again, and installed a green architectural roof on his house.  It is gorgeous. What a great color choice.

Now Green means something different.  Green is eco-friendly.  We have green cars, green water bottles, and green light bulbs.  Each costs more than the traditional option, but it makes us feel better.  When we're talking about Green roofs, though, the purchasers are slow to pay the extra money.

Here's my question.  Would you be willing to pay extra for a roof that saves resources but will probably never save enough to make up for the difference in price?  They make solar roof shingles that are installed right onto your roof and produce energy.  Are you willing to pay more for them? How much more, 20%, 50%, more?

Help us get better

If I don't communicate in a way that helps you understand what I am saying then it doesn't count. It is my fault. If I come out to look at designing an addition or remodeling a kitchen and I am speaking a foreign language to you, please stop me. Hit me on the head. Tell me to read my own blog and learn some communication skills. I would hate to leave an appointment with you having more questions than before the appointment.

So here is the question, why, as a customer, would you help a remodeler learn how to communicate properly? I don't know. I just know that people will usually help when asked, so I'm asking. I want to get better. I want our company to get better.

We also send out surveys after the project's completion. Please fill it out and mail it to us. We're paying the postage. Thanks

What's next?

I really don't know much about politics. I do know I would rather pay less taxes than more taxes. I also know that I like a strong national defense, and someone has to pay for that.
Here's what else I know. If you do what you say, stand behind your work, keep your promises, charge just enough but not too much....If you do the right thing, your business will outlive this administration and the next and the next.
We at Christian Roofing and Remodeling have been doing that for three generations. I don't know how many Democrat or Republican administrations that is, and I don't know what the next election will bring, but I do plan on keeping this business around for the next generation.

That's Gonna cause a leak

Maybe not the best pictures, but I was recently on a roof in Athens, GA and found what was causing their leak. I think I remember the lyrics to a song from when I was a kid; "what goes up (duh duh) must come down / Spinning wheel...."

Thought I'd share this Mythbuters-type post. CONFIRMED . If you shoot a gun towards the sky, the bullet will come down.
